Ten verses on what God has promised — and on the character behind the promising.
A promise is only as good as the one making it. That is the reason so many of these verses spend their words on God's character rather than on the content of any particular promise. Numbers 23:19 does not tell you what God pledged; it tells you that he is not the kind of being who says a thing and then does not do it.
This matters practically. Most people who go looking for verses about God's promises are not doing systematic theology — they are checking whether the ground will hold. The passages below answer that question directly: the promises are "yea and Amen" (2 Corinthians 1:20), the promiser is faithful (Hebrews 10:23), the word sent out does not come back empty (Isaiah 55:11), and the work begun gets finished (Philippians 1:6).
Worth reading carefully: Romans 8:28 says all things work together for good, not that all things are good. It is a claim about God's ability to weave, not a instruction to relabel painful things as pleasant ones.
1. 2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
Note · The promises are not pending. They are answered in Christ.
2. Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie... hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Note · The argument is about character, not about any single promise.
3. Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Note · All things work together for good — not all things are good.
4. Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Note · The reason to hold fast is placed in the parenthesis: he is faithful.
5. Philippians 1:6
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Note · For seasons when your own progress feels stalled.
6. Isaiah 55:11
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void...
Note · What God says accomplishes something by being said.
7. Deuteronomy 31:6
...for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Note · The promise is presence before it is provision.
8. 2 Peter 1:4
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises...
Note · "Exceeding great and precious" — the language is deliberately extravagant.
9. Psalm 145:13
...the LORD is faithful in all his words, and holy in all his works.
Note · Faithfulness stated as a settled attribute, not an occasional act.
10. Matthew 28:20
...lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Note · The last promise in Matthew, and the one the others rest on.
